School Visits Promote Inclusive Sports in Reus
December 2024
Reus, Spain — The NGO Open Europe, in collaboration with local schools and the association Súpera’t, has been actively promoting inclusive sports through the EUSPORTINCLUDES project. This European initiative aims to foster social inclusion and emotional well-being for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other special needs through sport.
Several Reus-based schools participated in adaptive sports sessions organized as part of the project. These sessions provided students the opportunity to engage in physical activity in an inclusive and supportive environment. The activities were held at Espai Boule and other local venues, bringing together pupils from different educational centers to raise awareness of diversity and inclusion.
A highlight was a multisport day organised by Open Europe where participants engaged in basketball and other adaptive games. The goal was not only to provide physical benefits but also to promote empathy, cooperation, and understanding among neurodivergent and neurotypical students.
This pioneering project reflects the commitment of Reus schools and local organisations to embrace diversity and ensure that every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to play and belong.
