Piloting Inclusive Sport in Action
Spain: Multi-Sport for Neurodiverse Youth
Between April and June 2025, Open Europe led a 12-week multisport pilot in Reus with 17 participants (ages 10–17) with ASD, ADHD, and OCD. Activities included:
- Athletics, basketball, swimming, boxing, roller hockey, hapkido, paddle tennis
- Adapted instruction using the Education Through Sport (ETS) methodology

- Improved confidence and autonomy
- Increased peer interaction and empathy
- Strong family engagement and feedback
Italy: Golf, Swimming & Fairy-Tale Games
In Mozzo, Sport Indoor ran pilot sessions for 17 children aged 5–12 — both with and without neurodevelopmental conditions. Activities were:
- Themed motor games based on fairy tales (Lion King, Jungle Book, etc.)
- Swimming and golf classes focusing on routine, focus, and control
- Tailored grouping based on preferences and needs
Outcomes
- 100% of children reported having fun and making new friends

What We Learned & What We Leave Behind
- Flexibility Works: Trainers adapted activities in real time using multi-entry strategies
- Routine Builds Trust: Weekly sessions in familiar spaces encouraged steady progress
- Storytelling Enhances Engagement: Using narratives created emotional and cognitive connection
- Age Mixing Requires Planning: Grouping by age bands proved more effective than mixed-age sessions
- Multisport Maintains Motivation: Variety helped children discover their strengths

A Lasting Impact & What's Next
EU SportIncludes proves that inclusive sport is not only possible — it’s replicable and scalable.
We’ve shown that with the right methods and mindset:
- Schools can integrate inclusive PE into their core curriculum
- Trainers and educators can become agents of inclusion
- Children with diverse needs can thrive and belong
The future plans include:
- Sharing resources with wider networks
- Supporting policy dialogue on inclusive education
- Partnering on new projects to extend the impact
This isn’t the end — it’s a new beginning.
